Fira, capital of Santorini, from the ferry as we approached the island. It is right on the Caldera, a high cliff surrounding a lagoon, which was formed 1500 years BC when a volcanic explosion believed to be 4 times larger than Krakatoa blew the centre of the then island out and filled with ocean water.

Elle est situee sur le Caldera, une haute falaise entourant un lagon, forme 1500 ans avant JC, quand une explosion volcanique 4 fois plus forte que Krakatoa a fait sauter le centre de l'ile autrefois ronde, et l'a renplie d'eau marine.
