Back in Athens - De retour a Athenes

Every good thing comes to an end. We left Santorini yesterday and are now back in Athens. The weather has turned to rain and cold but it is fun to be in the busy city again, and to see the lit Acropolis at night when we go out. We are very glad we took the time on a quiet island to relax and refresh. We haven't updated our blog for two weeks for the simple reason that we haven't been doing much at all. We filled our days soaking in the lifestyle and leisure of the semi expatriate: buying the paper and reading it every day, going to the store for our daily groceries needs (baklava, ouzo, feta, you know, the essentials), reading on the terrace, going for walks in the many alleys in town, going out for dinner at our favorite taverna... One day, we rented a car and drove around the small island, even venturing to Ancient Thera, an old fortified city built a the top of a ridiculously steep road. We went several times to Oia (another lovely little town on the island) by bus or walking along the caldera, 11 km north of Fira.

Toute bonne chose doit eventuellement prendre fin. Nous avons quitte Santorini hier et sommes de retour a Athenes pour 2 jours. La temperature a change au froid et humide, mais c'est bien d'etre de retour dans la ville animee, et de voir l'acropole illuminee en marchant le soir. Nous sommes contents d'avoir pris le temps sur une ile tranquille pour relaxer. Nous n'avons pas mis notre blog a jour depuis 2 semaines pour la simple raison que nous n'avons pas fait grand chose. Nous remplissions nos journees a absorber la vie quotidienne d'un expatriote retraite: achetant et lisant le journal tous les jours, allant faire le marche pour les necessites (baklava, ouzo, feta, les essentiels quoi), lisant sur la terrace, allant marcher dans les nombreuses allees de Fira, sortant pour souper a notre taverne preferee... Un jour, nous avons loue une voiture et nous sommes promenes autour de la petite ile, nous aventurant meme de grimper au haut d'une route ridiculeusement raide pour aller voir le site de Thira ancienne. Nous sommes meme quelque fois alles a pied ou en autobus a Oia, un petit village adorable a 11 km au nord de Fira.
