Spring and Summer 2008 - Printemps et été 2008

It has been a while since I took time to post a few photos, so here we go with a little update. The biggest news in the Markley family is the return of Sébastien to Whitehorse. A job as statistician became vacant at the Yukon Government Bureau of Statistics, and he was the successful candidate. This meant a big change of plans for him as he intended to make his life in France but the opportunity was too good to pass for now. He has started work on July 7 and already found a very nice appartment. Christelle will join him in October.

Josianne is also working for Yukon Government, as therapy assistant in a continuing care facility. She has moved from working with 5 year olds for the last two years to working with seniors.

Loïc is spending 3 weeks in Whitehorse after making a presentation at a week long conference in San Diego.

Il y a un bout que je n’ai pas posté de photos sur le blog, alors voici une petite mise à jour. La plus grande nouvelle chez les Markley est le retour de Sébastien à Whitehorse. Il a été le candidat choisi comme statisticien au bureau de statistiques pour le gouvernement du Yukon. Il a du grandement modifier ses plans, puisqu'il comptait faire sa vie en France, mais cette occasion était trop bonne pour la passer. Il a commencé à travailler le 7 juillet et s'est déjà trouvé un très bel appartement. Christelle le rejoindra en octobre.

Josianne aussi travaille pour le gouvernment du Yukon comme assistante thérapeute dans une institution à soins continus pour personnes agées. Ca la change des petits de maternelles avec qui elle travaillait les deux dernières années.

Loïc passe 3 semaines de congé à Whitehorse après avoir fait une présentation à une conférence d'une semaine à San Diego.

July - Juillet

A visit from Gina, an old Atlin friend whom we hadn't seen for 15 years, now living in Fort McMurray. We had Musials over for dinner while she was there.

Jean Lassen, our Whitehorse olympian who went to school with Loïc and who we went to see at the send-off evening.

Excursion to Fort Selkirk, historical site on the Yukon river, accessible only by water. We drove 4 hours North and took a boat for 20 minutes to get there. This is a once a year excursion organized by the local tourism dept.

Excursion à Fort Selkirk, site historique sur le fleuve Yukon, uniquement accessible par voie fluviale. Nous avons conduit 4 heures au nord et pris un bateau pour 20 minutes. Cette excursion est organisée par le ministere du tourisme local une fois par année.


























































While Terry and I were at Fort Selkirk, Saba Lo and Jo were on the Chilkoot with Nathan. They did the 50 km historical pass in one day. Crazy!!!

Pendant que Terry et moi étions à Fort Selkirk, Saba Lo et Jo étaient sur le col Chilkoot avec Nathan. Ils ont fait les 50 km en une journée. Faut le faire!!

June - Juin

During the Hynes-Reid family visit to Atlin, we blew up the Marsville "space habitat" and played games in it while it rained.

Pendant la visite des Hynes-Reid à Atlin, nous avons gonflé la bulle Habitat de Marsville et y sommes restés des heures pendant qu'il y pleuvait dessus.

May - Mai

In May, we sadly said goodbye to our Columbian friends Claudio and Angelica, who left Whitehorse after experiencing spending the Winter, as part of their round the globe bicycle trip. They had hosted the Wednesday noon Spanish conversation group since Christmas.

En mai, nous avons dit au revoir a nos amis Colombiens Claudio et Angelica, qui ont quitte Whitehorse après y avoir passe l’hiver, pour continuer leur voyage autour du monde en vélo. Ils avaient anime le groupe de conversation espagnole du mercredi midi depuis Noël.

April 8 avril

April 8 marked our 30th wedding anniversary. We were able to celebrate it at a very nice Indian restaurant in Toronto with Loic and Irina. Then, we went for dessert at a Italian bistro.


Le 8 avril, nous fêtions notre 30ème anniversaire de mariage à Toronto avec Loic et Irina. Nous sommes allés a un très bon resto indien, puis avons pris le dessert à un bistro du quartier Italien de Toronto.

Family holiday - Vacances famille

Papa Claudie and Loïc (who was visiting from Toronto for the Easter week-end) picked us up at the airport and took us straight to Nicole and André's for a wonderful mussles dinner with France and William.

Dès notre arrivée à Ottawa, Papa Claudie et Loïc (en visite chez son grand-père pour Pâques) nous ont emmenés chez Nicole pour un délicieux souper de moules chez Nicole et André avec France et William.

Thanks to "old" friends Carolle and Nicole, I spent a wonderful evening down memory lane with some high school friends I hadn't seen in over 25 years. Incredibly, no one had changed!! Honestly!!

Grâce à Carolle et Nicole, quelques "vieilles" amies du secondaire nous sommes rencontrées pour un souper-rencontre. Quelques-unes d'entre nous ne nous étions pas vues depuis plus de 25 ans. Nous avons passé une excellente soirée à évoquer nos vieux souvenirs. Après tant de temps, personne n'avait changé! Vraiment!!

Ottawa/Toronto visit-e

Three weeks after returning from Hawaii, it was time for another trip, this time to Ottawa and Toronto. We took advantage of Terry's conference in Toronto to go visit my family and friends in Ottawa and Montreal. My sister Claudie coincided her holidays to come over from Mexico and spend time with us.

Trois semaines après notre retour d’Hawaii, nous sommes repartis, cette fois-ci pour Ottawa et Toronto. Nous avons profité d’une conférence de Terry à Toronto pour aller rendre visite à ma famille et amis à Ottawa et Montréal. Ma sœur Claudie a aussi coïncidé sa visite du Mexique pour passer quelques temps avec nous.

The day they left, Josianne treated herself to a surfing lesson with another Yukoner. She really enjoyed it and is hoping to continue learning some day.

After the soccer week-end, we took Jo and Ruth for a two day trip to Volcano National Park. Unfortunately, the sulfur gases caused the closure of many trails and we couldn’t go down into the crater. On the way, we stopped at Black sand beach for some turtle watching.

Après le week-end soccer, nous avons fait une tournée de deux jours avec Jo et Ruth pour aller au parc de volcans, mais les vapeurs de souffre nous ont empêché d’aller sur les sentiers de randonnées dans le cratère. En route, nous nous sommes arretés a Black Sand Beach pour admirer les tortues vertes.

Hawai'i - pleasant surprise/Agreable Surprise

After an afternoon at the beach, we were delighted to have dinner with my ex-colleague Susan Somers and her partner Kelly. Susan now lives in Northern Alberta and we hadn't seen each other in 1 1/2 years. They happened to be in Hawaii at the same time as us. Short but sweet.

Après un apres midi à la plage, nous avons eu le plaisir de souper avec mon ex-collegue Susan Somers, et son partenaire Kelly. Ils habitent maintenant au nord de l'Alberta, et nous ne nous étions pas vus depuis 1 1/2 ans. Ils se trouvaient en Hawaii en meme temps que nous.
