Here is a glimpse of the Markley life for the last two months. After a frigid month of November, we were enjoying rather mild temperatures for that time of year, until the end of February when it went down to much lower than normal, just in time for the opening of the Canada Winter Games.
For those who haven't heard of the games, let me tell you that it was the event of the century in Whitehorse. Imagine a city of 25000 people hosting 10000 athletes, coaches, chaperones and relatives (in two stages) for two weeks. It was super. Terry and I (as well as 4000 others) offered our volunteer services. I had the pleasure to work with synchronized swimming, both as an assistant refferree and an announcer during the first week. I participated in the opening ceremony as a choir member singing the national anthem and another games song. I also sang the national anthem with 3 other women at four medal ceremonies. There were 81 altogether. Terry was with the ushers teams of two venues. He was able to enjoy watching many events. We both participated as ushers and other fun duties for the closing ceremonies.
When we weren’t working, we had the wonderful opportunity to watch many other sports events; the ones I preferred: synchronized swimming, judo, badminton, figure skating, speed skating, gymnastics, women hockey, wheelchair basketball, table tennis, inuit games, Dene games etc…
